    2025-15 & 16 Good Grandpa Cardigan + Vest

I saw this cardigan knit by Madeline from Fruity Knitting and immediately thought it would be amazing for my daughter. You can see it here in Episode 148 of their vlog. Even the colour she used was perfect. I found something similar at Wool Warehouse, the King Cole Chunky Tweed in the colour Benecula, it’s an acrylic and wool blend, with a lovely tweed.

Keely picked out the buttons from a shop on Etsy, Red Poppy Crafting out of Nanaimo BC. They look great with this yarn! She loves the cardigan and wears it all the time.

Pattern: Good Grandpa Cardigan by Caidree

    Made for: Keely

    Craft: knitting

    Size: Large

    Needle: 5mm, 4mm, 3.5mm

    Yarn:  King Cole Chunky Tweed

    Colourway:  Benecula

Notes: used 6.3 balls, went down two needle sizes from pattern throughout.

With the leftover yarn I made a vest for my BFF’s daughter, who reluctantly modelled it for aunt Michele to take a photo. I know, I’m a trial *sigh* I do love making things for the girls though!

    16 Vest for Catie

Pattern: See My Vest Chunky by Emily from Maker Maker

    Made for: Catie

    Craft: knitting

    Size: Small

    Needle: 6mm, 5mm

    Yarn:  King Cole Chunky Tweed

    Colourway:  Benecula

Notes: Making a vest for Catie with the yarn leftover from Keely’s cardigan. The pattern is an adult size made with 7mm needles and chunky yarn. But I am using tighter gauge with 6mm needles. 14 sts and 20 rows to 10 cm. Catie would like it 19” (48 cm) long from her shoulder. Use split hem, slip first stitch on each row. Cast in off all ribbing with sewn tubular bind off.

2025-12 & 13 Gifts for a New Baby in the Family

We have a new baby in the family! My cousins became grandparents to a beautiful baby girl named Maevan Jean on April 3rd, so of course I had to make something. I usually go with the standard baby blanket, but I fell in love with the knit Silver Fox Bonnet by Frogginette, then realized there was an adorable cardigan to match. I had ordered enough yarn to make a blanket anyway, so I decided to crochet a Classic Shell Stitch, the cardigan and bonnet only used 1 1/2 balls of the 6 that I ordered, so I had just enough.

I love the braid effect of the cable pattern on the button band and shoulders of the cardigan, it’s the same cable stitch found in the front panels, it’s just done continuously.

The yarn is Stylecraft Bambino DK from Wool Warehouse UK, it’s 100% acrylic, so easy care for new parents. The colour is Misty Mallow, which is in the purple family, it has a lovely vintage feel to it. It shows off the cables beautifully, and was very nice to work with. I have 6 balls of the Sage colourway as well, so it will pop up in a future project.
