I was looking for a pattern to make an impressive wedding gift blanket, I bought the Hide and Seek blanket by Beba Blanket, but thought I’d try out a free tutorial first. I’m glad I did, while I love the way they look, it’s an awful lot of single crochet. I might come back to it one day because I LOVE the look of the Hide and Seek Blanket with a gradient yarn. I cannot remember where I found this specific Greek Key pattern, but there are a lot of them out there on YouTube. I did use the tips and tricks, as well as the envelope border from Beba Blanket on YouTube though, she has really great videos!

James asked for a baby gift for his friend whose son was born in August. I really liked the feel of this Caron Cotton Cake, it knit up really nicely, and feels very cozy. He won’t be seeing Merwin until February, so I hope they love it!
Crochet bucket hats were popular this summer so I made matching ones for my daughter Keely and my BFF’s daughter Emily. They looked adorable in them!
Keely wore hers on our trip to Ontario this summer, so my mother asked for one. I made a couple for her as well, and wore one myself while Keely and I were at the dock.
I saw this cardigan knit by Madeline from Fruity Knitting and immediately thought it would be amazing for my daughter. You can see it here in Episode 148 of their vlog. Even the colour she used was perfect. I found something similar at Wool Warehouse, the King Cole Chunky Tweed in the colour Benecula, it’s an acrylic and wool blend, with a lovely tweed.
Keely picked out the buttons from a shop on Etsy, Red Poppy Crafting out of Nanaimo BC. They look great with this yarn! She loves the cardigan and wears it all the time.
Notes: used 6.3 balls, went down two needle sizes from pattern throughout.
With the leftover yarn I made a vest for my BFF’s daughter, who reluctantly modelled it for aunt Michele to take a photo. I know, I’m a trial *sigh* I do love making things for the girls though!
Notes: Making a vest for Catie with the yarn leftover from Keely’s cardigan. The pattern is an adult size made with 7mm needles and chunky yarn. But I am using tighter gauge with 6mm needles. 14 sts and 20 rows to 10 cm. Catie would like it 19” (48 cm) long from her shoulder. Use split hem, slip first stitch on each row. Cast in off all ribbing with sewn tubular bind off.
I gained a new daughter this year when my oldest son married in June. We love her and we are very happy that he is happy. It also means I have another lovely human to make things for. She showed me a photo from Instagram of a granny square bonnet she liked and asked if I could make that. I took a peak and said sure! The person on Instagram was making them to sell, not selling the pattern, so I just reverse engineered it as best I could. It looked like she used a fuzzy yarn like the Caron Cloud Cake, so I bought this one which I think is a perfect match, and then used stash yarn for the rest.
Pattern: see Yarnonyonge on Instagram for inspiration
Size: hood 23 cm depth x 23 cm length
Craft: crochet
Made for: Crystal
Hook: 4mm
Yarn: Caron Cloud Cake
Colourway: Sandbar Dune
Yarn: Stylecraft Special DK
Colourway: gold, teal, white
Notes: Found a daisy themed granny square pattern and adapted it as below.
Make 7 granny squares.
With gold yarn Ch 3, join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1 Ch 2 (counts as dc), 11 dc in ring, join with sl st in top of beg ch 2. Finish off. (12 sts total around)
Rnd 2 Join white in any space between two stitches of Rnd 1, ch 2 (counts as dc), 1dc in same sp, *2dc in next sp between sts, repeat from * around, sl st to join in top of beg ch 2. Finish off. (24 sts total around)
Rnd 3 Join teal in any space between groups of 2 stitches, ch 2 (counts as st), 2dc in same sp, *3dc in next sp between pair of 2 sts, repeat from * around, sl st to join in top of beg ch 2. Finish off. (36 sts total around)
This yarn is self striping, so it was a bit of a challenge to get the right colours happening where I wanted them too. I used the tan for the 4th round in the granny squares, then moved onto the darker taupe for the joining round.
Rnd 4 Join Caron Cake in any space between groups of 3 stitches. Ch 2 (counts as st), 2dc in same sp, 3dc in next sp between groups of 3 sts, (3tr, ch2, 3tr) in next sp between groups of 3 sts which is the corner of the square, *3dc in next 2 spaces between groups of 3 sts, (3tr, ch 2, 3 tr) in next sp between groups of 3. Repeat around, sl st to join in beg ch 2. Finish off.
Round 5 Using next colour that appears in Caron Cake, work another round of dc cluster granny stitch, joining squares as you go. Final square will be the angled granny at the crown, each side of it will join with a side of 4 of the granny squares.
Set up for Edging
With right side facing, starting in any corner space and continuing with Caron Cake, work sc evenly around all sides, chain 2 and turn.
Row 1 of neckline Working across next 4 granny squares, work back post, front post dc ribbing, skipping every 4th stitch across to draw in neckline. Ch 2, turn.
Rows 2-5 work back post, front post dc ribbing across. At the end of last you should have right side facing. Do not fasten off. Do not turn.
Row 1 chain 5, sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in next chain, hdc in next 2 chains. Working across ends of ribbing, work 2 dc in end post of each row. Working across sc stitches, (3 dc, dc2tog) across to end of sc stitches, fudge the end if there aren’t 5 stitches left to work pattern. Working across ends of ribbing, work 2 dc in end post of each row. Ch 5, turn.
Row 2 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in next chain, hdc in next 2 chains. Dc across to last 5 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, sc in next 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3 sk first st, sl st in next 4 sts, sc in next 3 sts, hdc across to last 2 sts, sc in last 2 sts. .
We have a new baby in the family! My cousins became grandparents to a beautiful baby girl named Maevan Jean on April 3rd, so of course I had to make something. I usually go with the standard baby blanket, but I fell in love with the knit Silver Fox Bonnet by Frogginette, then realized there was an adorable cardigan to match. I had ordered enough yarn to make a blanket anyway, so I decided to crochet a Classic Shell Stitch, the cardigan and bonnet only used 1 1/2 balls of the 6 that I ordered, so I had just enough.
I love the braid effect of the cable pattern on the button band and shoulders of the cardigan, it’s the same cable stitch found in the front panels, it’s just done continuously.
The yarn is Stylecraft Bambino DK from Wool Warehouse UK, it’s 100% acrylic, so easy care for new parents. The colour is Misty Mallow, which is in the purple family, it has a lovely vintage feel to it. It shows off the cables beautifully, and was very nice to work with. I have 6 balls of the Sage colourway as well, so it will pop up in a future project.
I work with a couple of really great women, who are definitely knitworthy. We also have some pretty great clients, one of whom offered me some sock yarn this tax season because she had been given quite a bit from someone else and couldn’t possibly use it all. Our office colours are turquoise and silver, so of course I asked her for turquoise options if she had any, and she came through! I knit a pair for both Erika and Jeanette after tax season, I still have some yarn left, so into the stash it goes, to be pulled out another day. Maybe I’ll get a pair of sock out of it?
Cheers to a new project!

Made for: Erika
Needle: 2.25mm
Yarn: Deborah Norville Serenity Sock Weight
Colourway: Indigo
Notes: Foot length 10”
Switched out the heel flap pattern for eye of partridge. I used 75 grams of yarn, I was gifted three balls, so I have enough left to make a second pair.
After finishing the baby blankets in my previous post, I had a bunch of 2 round granny squares left over. My niece asked if I could make her teddy bears a blankie with it, and she picked yellow as the joining colour. It was a quick, fun project, that I forgot to measure, but it’s just right for teddies Jack Jack and Nala 🥰

In February our neighbours to the south started a trade war with us, so early March brought a renewed sense of Canadian pride, we started buying only Canadian products, or from our friendlier trade partners. It also inspired us to craft with Canadian pride. Knit Me is a Canadian company that offers yarn subscription boxes which I had previously been gifted, they also sell patterns individually. One of them is the Maple Leaf Wrap, if you look closely you can see the maple leaves.
I had a skein and a bit of the yarn recommended for this pattern, leftover from knitting a sweater a couple years ago, So I decided to wind it up and make a “just because” gift for my BFF. Ancient Arts Revival Fingering is an environmentally conscious yarn made from recycled and reclaimed fibers from the carding and milling process, it’s 49% Wool, 34% Mohair, 11% Nylon, 4% Acrylic, 2% Silk.
The pattern starts with a garter tab, then you work a 23 row lace pattern with increases on each end, so you do have to pay attention to your row count. There are also a few special stitches to sort out, but the pattern is well written and the special stitches have good descriptions.
Overall I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and Sheila liked it.
One of the crochet designers I follow is Faye from Little Dove Crochet, last October she posted in her blog about making four baby blankets all from the same colour combination, I really liked that idea. I have so much stash yarn for baby blankets I thought I’d give it a go. So I pulled my own colour combination together and managed five blankets! I added in an extra colour in the last couple blankets because I ran out of the green. All of these will be donated to Craft for YEG who you can find on Facebook. They are a local Edmonton, AB group who collect donations of many different items for a variety of local charities.
Left to right, Harlequin Stitch, Growing Granny Square, Simple 5 Round Granny, 2 Round Solid Granny x 2
Notes: Starting chain 133. Work first row as skip 2 instead of skip 3. All chain 7 work as chain 5. All chain 4 as chain 3. Border is the Double Crochet Post Ribbing from Daisy Farm Crafts.
Yarn: Scraps of DK/Sport weight yarn leftovers, with Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly in white for joining. Used join as you go as above. Border was a few rounds of sc, then three rounds of granny stitch and two more rounds of sc.
Yarn: Scraps of DK/Sport weight yarn leftovers with cream for joining with join as you go as above. Border is a variation of the Attic24 Cozy Stripe Edging. I skipped round two, then worked round three into the spaces between dc clusters below.
